10Gbit Interfaces shown as 1.41Gbit (SNMP)

Hello,

the detection of the network interface speed with “if64” seems to be broken:

Speed: 1.41 GBit/s (expected: 10 GBit/s)

I noticed this with SNMP checks on TrueNAS and Ubiquiti switches.

Check_MK version: 2.0.0p4 (CRE)

Is there a known bug?

hm in my environment Cisco, HP, Juniper SW it works as expected

it looks like that the used speed will be shown there

The used speed is 10GBits (shown in the Unifi Controller and TrueNAS interface). Also a speedtest shows the full 10GBits.

how it looks if you made the detection on the CLI ??

cmk -Ivv --checks=if64 YourSwitch

WebUI still shows 1.41 GBits.

ifconfig on the server shows media: Ethernet 10Gbase-T <full-duplex> so the link is definately correct.

When you try to get data by SNMP-V1, the speed will shown in this way. Please user V2 to get the 64bit counter values. Then, the speed will shown correctly.

I have selected “SNMP v2 or v3” and used a SNMP community so this should be SNMP v2.

Edit: Switched to SNMPv3 on TrueNAS. Problem still exists.

Problem still exists with SNMPv2 and v3 in checkmk 2.0.0p5

Then it is a broken SNMP stack on your NAS.
If you do an “cmk --debug -vvn hostname” you see all the SNMP OIDs it fetches.
Can you provide this output?

This is from TrueNAS:

If you run this snmpwalk manually what is the output for booth of your systems?

You can compare the result with this snmpwalk. The later one is the 32 bit speed value and the first one the speed value for 64 bit counters.

These are the results:

You see booth devices report the wrong speed → broken SNMP Stacks on these devices.

.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.15.1 = 1410
need to show
.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.15.1 = 10000
for 10 GBit

The OIDs like .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.5.1 can only show the 1410065408 as this is the maximum possible with 32 bit signed integers.
If you search the internet for information about your switch and SNMP problems you will find many complains.

Thank you for your help.

Is there a mechanism in checkmk to correct/replace these values?

You can only set an assumed input/output speed. This is then used for the calculation of the utilization.
