BUG - LDAP auth not working with special characters

Hello,
upgrading from 1.5.x to 1.6.0 there seems to be a problem with LDAP auth and cookie auth.
Specifically users can’t login to pnp4nagios if their username contains “@” (we were using userprincipalname as the username attribute). I can confirm that everything works out of the box with, e.g., samaccountname which has no “@” nor spaces.

This seems to have been reported too, in the archive, but no solution has been provided.

Last but not least: how to report a bug ? Is this the correct place ?
