Check MK Network Issues

This is not a problem with the application itself, but i want to take advantage of the fact that there are experts here to know what methods they usually use when a device show connectivity issues in the application. Specifically, if the device is sometimes reachable and sometimes not when pinging from the server.
What methods or configurations do you usually employ in the application for such devices that demonstrate connectivity problems? How can you determinate that it is an issue external to the app without using a ping o traceroute?
