We are using check_mk 1.6.0p18 and i see the same entries in host problems as well as Stale entries ,is there a bug in the version or some settings needs to be chnaged
No really, if your down host is not checked anymore (disabled active checks or so) then it goes stale. That is correct. If your host check is not disabled then it should not go stale. Take a look at the time of the last host check to know if it checks or not.

Like i said it is correct if the down host is not checked anymore. Inspect the host for the last check attempt.
