I am struggling with an issue, which I cannot seem to resolve.
I have a Contact Group under which a user is presented.
Few services are assigned to the contact group through Assignment of services to contact groups, and this works like a charm.
However, if the host goes in a DOWN state the user is unable to view this.
If I use Assignment of hosts to contact groups and select all hosts, the DOWN host is being properly displayed, but with all of the services associated with it.
no its not
the only way currently would be to have a separate PING check.
there is a feature/“idea” request to allow for presenting the host state for contacts of only services as well
currently the main overview will show 0 hosts as an example
What you see is the default and it results in the behavior as described.
PS: if you use the RAW edition this setting cannot be changed inside GUI but only on command line inside the livestatus module load line of the Nagios config.
The main issue here is that if a separate PING check is applied, the service itself does not have a DOWN status, thus Nagios does not visualize it black. It is not a big deal, but if you have quite a few hosts its a big plus.
