Active Checker Helper usage

our active checkers go 100% on periodic base, current settings is at 6 (we have 8 cpu)
I have fetchers set on 50 because we have enough memory available, is this related ?

How many hosts do you have in monitoring, how many services in total? How high is the CPU utilization during the phases with 100% checker utilization?

The rule that number of checkers should be about the same number as physical cores is just a rule of thumb that assumes that checkers have zero wait for agent output.

this seems to be during the night? Perhaps you are running backups or other network intense activities?

What kind of active checks do you have?

we have in this case around 2500 hosts and 40.000 service checks

I’ve been playing around with the Max Fetchers, reducing them drasticly first and now gradually increasing again to 40 now, but it has no impact on the helper usage

You want to double-check, if there are hosts that go down or unreachable during the night. If you have a considerable amount of inaccessible hosts, that would explain your issue. In your case 30 to 40 inaccessible hosts would suffice for this behavior.
