Not sure what others thinks here but it seems the audit log in 2.3 shows password changes for local automation users, fine.
But it also shows the password changed, in clear text. Have it always worked this way?

I would say this is not intended.
Something for @martin.hirschvogel to forward to the right people 
Did you change it via GUI or REST-API?
I checked it inside the GUI and it shows the old PW in cleartext and the new one also.
