I have checkmk connecting to vsphere and noticing when I take a vm snapshot. It considers the presence of a snapshot as “OK” though and is just counting them. I am hoping that it can WARN or CRIT that condition (eventually I would like to have it emailing when there’s a snapshot, and alerting more forcefully when there’s a lot of snapshots or they’re very old, etc).
I apologize in advance for not reading the manual in advance of posting, I am a newbie and testing out checkmk. I went through the relevant sections but I got a little turned around on how rules factor in (and how I might adjust something that it it doing already). (I will go through the video introductions this afternoon, so if this is something that should be obvious, sorry for that.)
If i remember ist correctly, you can only define rules for the age of the snapshots at the moment.
You can inspect the possible options for every check if you do the following steps.
first select the “Parameters for this service”
and then
select the option with the name of the check. There you can see then all the possible options if you create an empty rule and play around with the available values.
@Sara - One comment for the UI people at Munich - this is one of the biggest problem i think for new users - to find the right way to the settings for the check itself
A belated thank you for this. Setting the snapshot count to trip on one snapshot does what I want. Showing me how to do this answered about five more questions for me as well!
