Check_mk agent and xinetd on centos 9 stream

Hello,

I’ve centos 9 stream installed on my vm and i installed check mk agent rpm successfully but i didn’t find xinetd available on EPEL.

So what will happen if i used the agent without xinetd?

or what should i do instead to start monitor the vm in normal way?

Today the agent is started via systemd socket unit or a systemd service unit for the agent controller.

i’ve check mk version 1.6.0, So now i don’t need to use xinetd on centos 9? is that what you mean?

or should i install another packaged instead?

Why do you use cmk 1.6?

It’s quite old and out of support…

Regards, Christian

Should i upgrade to the latest version at one time. or what is your recommendations?

As I recall, updates are done version by version: to the latest patch of the major version, then the latest patch of the next version and so on, but as 1.6 is a very old version, it might make sense to start anew.
If you decide not to do that, starting the migration from 1.6 would be described here: Updates and Upgrades
