[Check_mk (english)] discovery service names

Hello-

I’m trying to figure out if it is possible when I do an SNMP discovery of primarily Cisco devices, and populate the service names with the ‘ifDesc’ as opposed to the interface
number. Currently the discovery lists the service as ‘interface xxx’ and my users are asking if it is possible to change this to reflect the interface description (i.e. ‘GigabitEthernet1/17’). Is there a way to manipulate the if64 discovery to promote this
change to MK? I see the ifDesc portion is in the Status Detail section- it’s basically a need to swap the information.

Example:

Currently:

State Service Status Detail

···

OK

Interface 31

OK - [GigabitEthernet1/30] (up) MAC: x4:7x:4x:x2:xx:1x, 100MBit/s, in: 84.39B/s(0.0%), out: 219.02B/s(0.0%)

Preferred:

OK

GgigabitEthernet1/30

OK - [Interface 31] (up) MAC: x4:7x:4x:x2:xx:1x, 100MBit/s, in: 84.39B/s(0.0%), out: 219.02B/s(0.0%)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Karl

In WATO, go to Global Settings > Check Configuration > Use description as service name for network interface checks.
