[Check_mk (english)] Monitoring vCenter Services

Hi List,

Currently we are monitoring vCenter using API that we have in Check_MK.

We are not able get the services information which are important for vCenter.

Could you please help/guide me here.

Scenario: We have ran into a situation where vCenter was down due to one the dependent service which was in stopped state.

We got critical alert as “No response from Web API”. However curious to check if we have any option to monitor vCenter services.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Praveen.

Hi

this is pretty easy, please refer to this link: https://mathias-kettner.com/cms_monitoring_vmware.html

If you mean a “service”, what dou you mean in special? Does your vCenter run on a Windows server?

Then you need to install the Check_MK windows agent to monitor Windows and, if i understand this correctly, have it look at a certain service.

Hallo,
if you are using the windows version of vcenter you should know that this type of vcenter is in status EOL.
You are using the dataource-agent?
The problem monitoring services to find out if they are down or „only“ in an unclear status.

Thanks Thomas. We are monitoring the current environment using the same method.

If you mean a “service”, what do you mean in special?

Services which are independent for Appliance like

VMware vService Manager

VMware vCenter Server

VMware vSphere Web Client

VMware vCenter-Services etc.

Does your vCenter run on a Windows server?
Yes, we are using Windows environment.

And as per the support agreement with Vendor, we were not supposed to install CMK on this machine.

Therefore we are using this API and monitoring the environment.

So was checking if anyone is monitoring the VMware environment like this.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Praveen.

Hallo,
you can use
1)
Windowsservice up or down with the service check
2)
a http_check to see if the login-pages are reachable
3)
a check to see if all necessary ports are active
4)
tools like selenium to check the response of the admin-webpages
