Hello list,
My question probably has been answered before, but it’s not easy to search for in the archives
I need to have a rule in my setup that sends out notifications (mails) when the CPU of a device has been high for xx minutes
Anybody experience with this ?
P.
hi,
we use the rule
"CPU utilization for simple devices"
for that.
greetings

Create a rule for CPU Utilization (not load).
Create a rule for service notification delay.
You can make both rules as specific as you need.
(single host, folder, or if in the main folder and no filter, they will apply to all hosts)

True, the rule will depend on the type of device (unix/linux, windows, appliance, etc...)
I *think* the service name is the same (CPU utilization) so the notification delay rule would
be the same for all types.

Hi Philippe,
you could also use the rule(s) 'maximum check attempts for service
checks'. This rule defines after how many checks a service changes its
HARD status. By default this is configured as '1', so there are no
SOFT states by default. Notifications are only triggered for HARD
state changes.
If you want to learn more about SOFT and HARD states, have a look
here: State Types

Hi Philippe,
Keep in mind that the CPU check alerts based on the 15 minute average.
So if you configure the limit on 1, an alert will be sent if:
- the load was > 1 for 15 minutes
- the load was > 3 for 5 minutes
- the load was > 15 for 1 minute
If you want to delay a notification anyhow, then you can use the option suggested by Marcel.
Regards,
Evy
