Hi,
with CEE 1.4.0i2 you can create a manual check „Uptime since last reboot“ based on snmp, esx or OS-uptime.
Just check out i fit works for your version as well.

I misunderstood you before… I gave you a reply for –decreasing- freq instead of increasing freq… Kindly ignore my confusing
response J
There are usually several solutions to a problem.
Actually, increasing ping frequency could be a good one in your situation, I don’t know.
Using SNMP this can be solved more elegantly in my opinion. As my environment allows for SNMP that’s what I’ll use.

The uptime solution (based on snmp, esx or OS) sound goods, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for this great tip!
Snmp is not an option because I should open the protocol for all network and in my environment is not so easy for many reasons that I won’t mention
Anyway I still don’t understand because increase ping frequency wouldn’t be an option. Is because isn’t possibile or just because is a bad option? and why?

Betreff: [Check_mk (english)] Detect virtual machines fast reboot
Hi all
I just noticed that when virtual machines reboot, often check_mk doesn’t detect becuase the reboot is very fast.
Ho did you solve the problem? Maybe pinging every 10 seconds? How could I change the global setting for ping?
Hi
Just another vote for the uptime check. We add the following config in main.mk (WARNING if uptime of host is less than 10 minutes)
check_parameters += [
( {“min”: (600, 0)}, ALL_HOSTS, [“Uptime”] ),
]
As for uptime vs ping - well, if the host didn’t come back then we’d see a continuing host down I guess.
If it’s gone down and recovered I want to know about it. But the ping check is irrelevant at that point.
This 10 minute check lets us know something has happened however.

kinda confused about all this talk about ‘Uptime check’…I’ve got
a rule that
shows any host with a system uptime of less than 30 minutes as a
warning.
It doesn’t matter how fast the system reboots, it will still show an
uptime
warning for the next 20-30 minutes.
It works for all my linux/solars/windows hosts…(not so much
freenas/truenas).
About half of the hosts are esx VMs monitored via check_mk client
(not vsphere).
