I have been running OMD (1.10) since December and its working fine. I need to update check_mk to 1.2.3i for ESXi monitoring.
What would be the best way to update OMD to 1.20 since it has check_mk 1.2.4?

At the moment there are no 1.20 released only the testing builds (1.11) are available from omdistro.org or labs.consol.de.
For the update you have to read the migration notes and install the new OMD package.

You can migrate the site then with a single command to the new version.
