when I open my Checkmk license usage information page, I get a warning of one of my sites having no history, In the list below it says “no samples”:
This site is already running for at least a few months now, but I never paid attention to this until today. I’m not sure where to look for logs or any other hint regarding this issue.
The only difference on this site, compared to the others, is that non of the hosts on this side have a checkmk agent, they are only pinged.
Maybe someone can give me a clue, where to lookout for information to this problem.
So the sitehost does have a HW/SW inventory service which has entries and is “ok”. It is monitored directly by the master. Does the inventory data have to be present somewhere else. How can I check?
The site server is monitored and has HW/SW-inventory. Also the config is synced. It’s configured the same way as all other sites. Just the monitored hosts on this site are ping only devices. I do also have a “Site statistics” service, which shows “Total hosts: 325, Problem hosts: 9, Total services: 650, Problem services: 18”
ok, turns out, if you activate one agent on one of the sitehosts (SNMP in my case) the samples are working. This is not ideal, since it was not the request on my side, but works for me.
first of all the license usage reporting has nothing to do with HW/SW inventory.
In Checkmk 2.0 and 2.1 the license usage update procedure was - roughly said - implemented in the Checkmk Service. Thus if a site has hosts without Checkmk services the update procedure is not triggered. The result of this site is “no samples”.
In Checkmk 2.2 the update procedure will be located somewhere else such that it’s not dependent on configuration.
