CMK 2.2 Proxmox monitoring clear up please

CMK Enterprise 2.2
Using Proxmox 7.4.3

The CheckMK instruction video does not mention installing the CheckMK Linux Agent but the documentation does. As i do not have root access to the Proxmox server the installation of the CMK Agent does not work for me.
Documentation: Proxmox Monitoring: How to Do it Efficiently with Checkmk | Checkmk
Instruction video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRk5IolV3Kw&t=472s

  1. Which one of the instructions is the truth?
  2. Will it work without installation of the Agent on the Proxmox server itself?

The Proxmox VE datasource and the Checkmk Agent are two independent things.

The agent collects system informations about the host, like CPU utilization, memory consumption, network perfomance, filesystem usage, and the like.

The datasource queries information from the Proxmox VE application, like informations about VMs and containers, and their performance and health.

If possible, both should be used together. But each one works without the other.

That is outside of the scope of any tutorial. Either you gain such access or you will need to ask the people responsible for proxmox to install the agent, manually or automatically (Puppet etc)

Thanks for your kind help. I’ll get access to the server shell.
What i found confusing is the video tutorial not mentioning the Agent part.
I’ll install the agent for host monitoring. Thanks again guys!
