Custom Dashboard that allows scrolling

We have some custom dashboards monitoring a specific type of traffic. Not all segments of our network have the same number of devices. We would like to combine all of these segments into one dashboard that we can scroll through. Vertically or Horizontally doesn’t matter to us. I have seen several posts of a similar nature, all have been closed. Most with no updates.

Is it possible to add or build a dashboard to be scrollable? if not now, then in the future?

Hi @nathanIQ

If I remember correctly, dashboards, do not scroll. As far as I know, this is an intentional
design decision, but I cannot judge, if this will stay like this in the future. To be honest, I assume
it will.

I believe when this was first introduced, the reasoning went something like this: Imagine you have
a large screen on a wall, with your custom (or built-in) dashboard, which your monitoring team watches.

The dashboard “fits” onto this large screen and does scale dynamically (see Dynamic layouts in action), but it would be impossible to “react” to something the team needs to react to, if it had to “scroll” through it.

There may be - or have been - other reasons, too, but imho this is a reason, I absolutely agree with. Not sure if someone from the Checkmk team has any additional explanation to share with you.

Thomas

the dashboards itselvs are not scrollable, but the content in the dashlets are.

You can try this trick:

  1. In your browser, zoom out as far as possible.
  2. Now rearrange and resize the dashlets in manual mode, so that they don’t auto-expand to the screen borders but have a fixed size and position.
  3. Save the dashboard.

If you now zoom back to normal, the browser will add scrollbars.

This is somewhat ugly and may not work in future versions but you can give it a try.

As said, there is need for it and still cant understand why still “fighting” against it.
Maybe time to reconsider?

I’m pretty sure, this will (beside other ideas) discussed as soon as a complete dashboard overhaul is on our roadmap again. Until then, I don’t think it is helpful to make any statements in this regard.
Be sure to be informed, as soon as we stark to work in such a direction.
