Dashboard list sorting

Thank you for a great product, by far the best monitoring solution I have ever used.

I have a question about sorting of the dashboard list. When on the main dashboard there is a list of “tabs”, one of them being “dashboards”. I cannot figure out how to get this list of dashboards sorted, and I’m hoping for suggestions on how to accomplish this.
They appear to be listed in the order they were created, but I would like a certain order.
I have tried using the “sort index” in each dashboard but it doesn’t help, and I can’t actually figure out what that does. It also does not sort by the dashboard ID or the title.

Any ideas out there? I am using 2.1 raw.

Hi.

In the Dashboard properties you will find a sort index. You can try to change it for your Dashboards.

I tried using sort index and numbering them 1, 2, 3, etc but it didn’t make a difference. Making me wonder if sorting is broken.

bump…this has been a problem for me since deploying back in 2022. Any tricks that anyone can recommend?

I never did find a solution. Sorting seems to be on order of creation, and nothing I have found makes a difference.

what @ChristianM wrote is correct, the default value of the dashboards is 99, so to sort the order differently inside of a topic, you need to be either higher or lower than 99.
I gave one dashboard a sort index of 599 to test it and it was sorted last in its configured topic.

Did you have to restart the server afterwards? I just tried what you suggested and it made no difference. I have a list where the sort index item is 99 and another that is now 599, and the one coming up first is the 599 one.
I am currently on RAW 2.2.0p12.
Oh wait, I see what you’re saying… On the left “Monitor” button, then showing the workspace list, that does follow the sort index. That’s not what I’m talking about. On the main dashboard screen, there is a menu item called “dashboards” and its the one that does not sort correctly.

Exactly what @genitguy3 said.

The dashboard drop-down menu is where the issue lies. We have ~50 dashboards made available for all of our various teams and it’s a huge mess. No amount of index changes to said dashboards has any effect.

Most people on our end have resorted to adding their dashboards to their favorites or drop the menu down and CTRL+F a keyword to find a specific dashboard. This is an ok workaround but even new dashboards added are lumped into the jumbled list with no discernable pattern.

I recall getting an answer from my CheckMK account team a little over a year ago that there was no way to sort this drop down menu. FWIW
