Distributed Monitoring Notifications

Hello,

I am using Check_MK 1.6.0p10 Enterprise. I am running two instances connected via Distributed monitoring. One of the instances is looking after Europe, the other after Asia. We are using the Europe one for monitoring and also showing the Asia hosts. How can I make the Europe host to send notifications for both instances?

I have Same Host Folder Structure in both instances so the Idea is to set on Site A to send for both site A and B notifications for folder X?

Best Regards,

You can setup the site in Asia to send all notifications to Europe’s site which then sends out emails or uses other methods.

Okay, but how to configure site Europe for which of them to trigger e-mail for example?

The notifications will be triggered on site Asia and sent to site Europe where they will be processed by the notification rules.

Yes but on the notification rules I select Host folders for example but aren’t these folders Site A’s , not Site B’s ?

This does not matter. If a folder is present on site A, you can use it as filter even for notifications coming from site B.

You should however note that there is a subtle difference between physical and logical folder names. The physical folder name is the name of the subdirectory under ~/etc/check_mk/conf.d/wato, the logical name is the “title” attribute within the file “.wato” in the folder. Always ensure that both the physical and logical folder names match between the two sites.

Thank you, this was really helpful! So on the remote instance do I need to have the Notifications “ON”, does this mean that it will also send e-mail or I need to have it “OFF”? The end Idea is only one of the sites to send notifications for both.

Read the document under the link given above by @r.sander .

On each remote site, you can choose wether notifications are sent locally, forwarded to the central site, or both.
