Issue
Hi Everyone,
I have set up a distributed monitoring set up with currently 2 remote locations. All is working just fine.
However it seems that when I create a folder on the main site and specify that it needs to be monitored on site B, the hosts/folder also get pushed to site A. The properties of this folder then show “Unknown site”.
This is something that I don’t want to happen, since these are 2 separate environments for 2 separate customers.
If you are providing monitoring services for customers in their infrastructure you need to purchase the managed services edition.
This edition is able to separate configuration by customer.
From the FAQ on Highly scalable IT monitoring with the Checkmk Enterprise Edition :
You need the license option “Managed Services Use” whenever you monitor IT infrastructure that you operate for or provide to a “third party”. A “third party” is a company that is not legally part of your company, i.e. it is not an affiliated company, shareholder, or have other similar interests. The third party is simply a customer. It is irrelevant whether the third party itself uses the software or whether you use it only internally, for example, to ensure your own service level agreements towards this customer. It is also irrelevant who owns the infrastructure and whether this infrastructure is located in your data center or in that of your customer.
We also have a license for the CME edition of CheckMK. However if I recall correctly I wont be able to use the automatic update feature locally on the remote location. It wants to connect to the Main location, and that is not possible due to VPN restrictions.
I will change the version of the installation from CEE to CME and check if I run into any issues (been a while since I tested this).
