Downtime comments

CMK Version 2.2.0p27.cre

I have noticed that the downtime comments are not the comments. In the default and built in view “comments_of_service”

Author Comment text Time Expires E.Type
auser This service has been scheduled for fixed downtime from 2024-08-21 13:38:48 to 2024-09-01 00:00:00. Notifications for the service will not be sent out during that time period. 20 m - [Downtime]

This is not the text that the user inputted as a comment, yet it is labelled as a comment text. The comment is only visible when clicking the ‘Downtime’ event type icon (traffic cone) in the “downtimes_of_service” view . And then it is also called a comment. Having just seen the H1 heading of the page " Comments of service DOM Ethernet2/25 Lane 1 Transceiver Receive Power Sensor, SG05-N7k-1-DC

MonitorOverviewAll hostsSG05-N7k-1-DCServices of HostService[Comments of service DOM Ethernet2/25 Lane 1 Transceiver Receive Power Sensor, SG05-N7k-1-DC]"

this seems odd or incongruent too, as these are not comments but more like system generated messages or just “event messages” (I realise this is already an overloaded term, but it is hard to name things)

The names should be distinct. The confusion is amplified because the first column is “Author” as this implies and amplifies that the user wrote the “Comment Text”. Our users are naturally confused as they didn’t (author) write this.

Can I propose that this view or table is renamed and restructured.

Better to use “User” as this implies any action, author suggests that someone wrote the “Comment Text”.
Better to use “Status message” because this is a message produced by the system, and not authored by the user. “Comment text” perhaps could just be “Comment”, we all know its text.

As a personal preference, it would also be good to see the actual non-system comment (or at least what it starts with) in this default view.

Troc.
