Dummy host for SQL checks

We’ve a need for some MSSQL checks. But the team monitoring them don’t have any actual hosts that need monitoring. I was hoping to be able to create some sort of dummy or fake host in Nagios to associate the SQL checks against.

Obviously, as the host doesn’t physically exist, DNS won’t be able to look it up, and even if it could, it wouldn’t respond to pings. Is anything like this possible?

Thanks
Dave

Either attach the check to the monitoring server itself.

Or create a dummy host with 127.0.0.1 and “no agent”.
