External Website monitoring

Hi all,

With the newly revamped check, how can I monitor a website externally since checkmk resolves the DNS name internally (I know I can override it with hosts file) ?

The deprecated Check HTTP service had an option for IP address and Virtual host because of proxies used.

Thanks, M.

Would this solve your need? Werk #15520: check_httpv2: Added new options to HTTP monitoring

Hey @martin.hirschvogel thanks. I don’t know really. What I am trying to say is that it would be good to have a field where you would type fqdn of a host, and then below that IP address field where you would type an IP of that host.

So for example if I have to check hostname.com - Diese Website steht zum Verkauf! - Informationen zum Thema hostname.
I would like to tell cmk that IP of that host is not internally resolvable 10.0.10.10 but externally 200.200.200.200.

Thanks, M

Hmm, yeah but I don’t see that on my end

We run these two versions:
Test: Checkmk Cloud Edition 2.3.0p10
Production: Checkmk Enterprise Edition 2.3.0p23

Sorry, but only available from 2.4 on

But would be happy to get your feedback, if this feature solves this use case (that was the intention).
Feel try to download a daily build of 2.4.0 (Tab Dailies!). It’s a bit buggy at the moment though!

Hey thanks for the heads up … I’ll definitely, at least, wait for a regular release for now before testing first to see if it solves the problem.

Thanks, M.
