Feature packs free for customers?

Hallo,
will the feature-pack be free for customers?
Ralf

it should … it`s just a collection of checks

Yeah, sure, they are free. You can see the code on GitHub anyway. Just that likely someone else paid for them.

And Bernd, just a collection of checks . A lof of them are built using special agents, thus it is not just “a simple SNMP check”. And even for simply SNMP checks, we spend quite some time to make sure, that they work well.

I think as it is not every time a complete new feature but “some” new checks.
Take a look at the Azure or Kubernetes checks. “Only” new checks with some files new to the system. As long as these new checks don’t require to change system internal functions or need new functions, it is nice to have the new checks also without the wait for a complete new major version.

For sure it’s not a bad idea…

IMHO the way over the Exchange it’s a better way also to push other to contribute or exchange the scripts / checks and so to push a little more the community

As Andreas said, instead of waiting one year for new checks, we want to provide you earlier with feature updates. And checks should typically not have an impact on stability, so they can be included as part of a “patch release”. We did that already for the 1.5.0p12 (also called 1.5.0+). This way, we also get earlier feedback on these new features to then improve them again. Otherwise the product cycles are just too long.

And we have come up with a mechanism, which should reliably manage these feature packs (=deactivating them upon on a new release, so that they don’t interfere).

We have build the new Checkmk Exchange, so that it is easier to share and find plug-ins. And we hope the Exchange will soon go beyond only check plug-ins in the future, hopefully then also dashboards, dashlets, themes etc. - but that requires some more development in the product on our side.

So, we will do both things. The feature packs for the aforementioned reasons. And the Exchange as a community platform for Checkmk extensions.

that sounds reasonable and sensible …
