HW/SW Inventory shows only very few entries

CMK version: 2.0.0p17
OS version: Windows Server 2016 Std

Error message: Found only 24 inventory entries at HW/SW inventory

Plugin exist at the Server and the inventrory is enabled.
Have many Servers with no inventory issues and some with this issue.
What can i do, to find the issue and fix it?

There are two points you should check. The log file is perfectly normal if the inventory script was running in the last 4 hours. This script creates a timestamp file and checks at start if it is older than the configured time. If not it will exit immediately.

That means - remove the timestamp and inspect the log file after the next agent run.

The other point you can check is the stored persisted data for this host on the monitoring system.
Inside “~/var/check_mk/persisted/” you should find a file with the data from this host and inside is hopefully some useful data.

I have remov the timestamp file and i see a new one, if the next inventory task was running.
At the monitoring server exist no file from this Agent with the inventory data.
However, the directory is also missing files from some servers where the inventory works.

Found another strange behavior in the inventory history.
As you can see in the inventory history, some things are inventoried and deleted on another day (This is only since 28.12.2021).
This is the case for some Windows and Linux systems, not for all.
Why is this so? How do I fix this?

It’s a long time since my last reply to this issue. But today i found the reason, i think, for this strange behavior.
Only one thing - is this host member of a cluster?
If yes then the cluster is the reason for this.

I found that this bug was fixed in 2.0p23 :slight_smile:

Hello @andreas-doehler we are on 2.0.0p27.cee and have a Windows SQL cluster node not reporting it’s inventory. Is there something to check specifically?

Looking in ‘~/var/check_mk/persisted/’ the cluster name is present, neither of the nodes are listed but the passive node reports it’s HW inventory and the active node does not.

Any thoughts?

We’re also seeing this behavior on the active cluster node. 2.1.0p9.

We also have this “problem” with no cluster Hosts. I have Host A with 1307 inventory entries and HostB (which is a clone of Host A VM) but only 16 inventory entries.

I haven’t had the time to analyse this but just want to add it here.
