Monitoring Cisco Switches

We are using CheckMK with Cisco switches but we noticed that CheckMK has a hard time getting all information out of them.

At this point we seem to be missing things like VPC’s and portchannels.

Also we notice that n the larger switches we have issues getting a response in time.

How do others cope with these issues? Have you found a solution for it?

Adjusting SNMP settings might help with the timeouts. You can find some hints for SNMP troubleshooting in the following blog article:

For the missing interface types, you probably need to enable them in a rule below
Setup > Services > Service discovery rules > Network interface and switch port discovery

The action with the discovery rules seems to have some impact. As we have a setup with way to many captains on the ship we will test this with babysteps.
But the first test seems to resolve at least part of the issue as we now have more interfaces including the LACP trunks.

The tuning stuff is something I need to check with someone with sufficient rights to get on the command prompt.
