MTR tool for CheckMK 2.1 (RAW)

Hello CheckMK Community,

I’m evaluating CheckMK as a potential option to consolidate a number of disparate monitoring solutions in our environment, one of the other platform is PingPlotter which is essentially a MTR/Traceroute tool monitoring latency on a path to a destination.

Is there something similar that you’re aware of that can perform this function on CheckMK 2.1 ?
I saw MTR on the exchange created in 2016 but doesn’t seem to be compatible with 2.1.

Ronald

You can use the included plugin → mtr.py for the Linux/Unix agent.
With the config file mtr.cfg you can define the targets to reach.

Aaah awesome thanks, let me google how to get that going @andreas-doehler.

Would it be one of these plugins I use and then look for the MTR.CFG on the host to edit?

You need to deploy the agent plugin “mtr.py” on your Linux host and there on this host you also have to create/edit a mtr.cfg file inside the “/etc/check_mk/” folder.
If you see the “Agent rules” → “MTR…” rule then you have an Enterprise edition or free edition running and there you can configure the plugin deployment from inside the CMK web frontend.
