Error message: Got empty response from server (code: 500). Take a look at the web server error log for details.
If I try dynamic map or automap it takes some time and I do not get any data, but the error message.
Maybe there are too many hosts. Can I filter that somehow?

You can filter automaps by state: filter_by_state. When you enable that, you get a problem automap, as in all hosts with optional child hosts that have no problems will be excluded from the view.
Another option is to filter by Checkmk host group: filter_group. Pulldown lets you select 1 host group from the groups you have. But this means you got to define host groups (Setup > Hosts > Host groups).
Alternatively you can export an automap into a static map, so got the first quick placement of hosts by automap feature, but less load of the server afterwards. And it lets you remove hosts, change layout however you see fit.
