New Checkmk Editions Lineup

Hello Community! :waving_hand:

We have big news for you that we want to share before the Checkmk 2.5 release.

As some of you might have already noticed, we are changing the Checkmk editions. It is more than a renaming – it is a change that comes after deep research and serious work that our product team did in the last months to make the different Checkmk options better suited to your needs.

Here’s our new edition lineup:

Checkmk Community — formerly: Checkmk Raw

Checkmk Pro — formerly: Checkmk Enterprise

Checkmk Ultimate — formerly: Checkmk Cloud self-hosted

Checkmk Ultimate with Multi-Tenancy — formerly: Checkmk MSP

Checkmk Cloud — formerly: Checkmk Cloud (SaaS)

We also prepared a blog post, that clarifies the change in more detail: Meet the new Checkmk lineup | Checkmk

Check out the blog post, let us know what you think about the new naming, and feel free to ask any questions in the comments.

Looking forward to your feedback,
Checkmk Team

Great change! Specially the Cloud part which was confusing.

Yes!
I also love the Community personally, I feel like it describes it so much better.

Will this also mean that ultimately the name of a/the packages we download will undergo a/the name-change ?

I mean, i can see after latest releases the name in the GUI → help has changed, but what i downloaded still was in the ‘original’ convention.

@Glowsome the Werk Werk #19391: Checkmk Edition Renaming has some more details

tldr: package names will stay the same for 2.3 and 2.4, but will change in 2.5

IMO the best way to solve this, the tribe thought this through

Cloud part is confusing.

Hi @kasaithambi !
Could you please clarify in what sense is it confusing, so I could pass the feedback to the team?

@Sara Please check my suggestion

Checkmk Cloud Self — formerly: Checkmk Cloud self-hosted
Checkmk Cloud — formerly: Checkmk Cloud (SaaS)

What is missing in the information, and what may cause confusion in the future, are the edition abbreviations.

I use RAW, which uses in my version the abbreviation cre, which also shows with omd version command:
OMD - Open Monitoring Distribution Version 2.4.0p24.cre

If this is Checkmk Community now, I would think the abbreviation will become cce?
But same abbreviation might also be used for Checkmk Cloud?!
:scream:

When I want to download an edition, it has the new edition names as selection options. :ok_hand:

But the actual download link / file still mentions the old names:
check-mk-raw-2.4.0p24_0.noble_amd64.deb

Hey @Yggy we didn’t want to break any scripts, that why in the filenames we kept the old names for 2.3 and 2.4

We solve the abbreviations (cce, cre, …) by … getting rid of them.

With the release of Checkmk 2.5, product titles and edition identifiers are changed. The long identifiers (e.g. raw , enterprise ) are changed. The short identifiers (e.g. cre , cee ) are replaced with the long identifiers to reduce the complexity.

Just before your reply I saw the Werk link @gstolz posted which gave answer to my confusion.
Werk #19391: Checkmk Edition Renaming

Thought about deleting my comment, but was just a little bit late, or you too quick. :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Edit:
Oh … there’s still a to do … update the tags in the forum, like checkmk-raw
Maybe @Sara can tackle this?

Hi @Yggy !
That I can do

No word on lowering the Service Count from 7000 to 6000 for Pro? That really got me in trouble.

We are not changing the service tiers for existing subscriptions. So you can renew your 7k subscription.

We just changed the tier for new customers, so that we can make all service tiers divisible by 30 to show the pricing also as hosts (3000 services ~ 100 hosts, 6000 services ~ 200 hosts..)

Checkmk Pro 6000 costs 3300€. Checkmk Pro 7000 was at 3600€.

Alright, that sounds good and fair, thank you very much @martin.hirschvogel

The free cloud/ultimate edition for 25 hosts or less still exists or were there changes as well?

There are not 25 hosts but 750 services as the limit. But this limit was already in place with 2.3.

750 services and 1 site as always as Andreas said.
Additionally with 2.5.0: Checkmk Pro also gets a free tier with the 750 services and 1 site limitation
