NTP last sync 52 years ? after upgrade from 1.6 to 2.0

OS version: AlmaLinux 8.6

Error message:

I’m seeing a lot of these on our AlmaLinux 8.6 hosts after upgrading:

NTP servers: unreachable, Reference ID: 00000000 ()WARN, Offset: 0.0846 ms, Stratum: 0, Time since last sync: 52 years 167 days (warn/crit at 35 minutes 0 seconds/1 hour 0 minutes)

Self answering, looks like that what you get when you get no response.

Not sure what causes the “no response”, since query directly always shows a response.

Perhaps… but I’m not going to hand edit the client agents for every host, especially as a lot of that is completely in flux.

What I may do is pull the plug (remove service everywhere) and write my own.
