Packet loss rule

We have configured a packet loss rule for hosts monitored using PING under:

Setup → Services → Service Monitoring Rules → PING and Host Check Parameters

However, we observed that the same rule is also being applied to the host check, resulting in host DOWN alerts when the packet loss threshold is breached.

Our requirement is to generate a CRITICAL alert only for the PING service when the packet loss exceeds the defined threshold, while keeping the host in an UP state unless it becomes completely unreachable.

Could you please advise how this can be achieved in Checkmk 2.4?

As the rule name says “PING and Host Check Parameters” it is automatically a host check parameter. To avoid this you need to define the PING check manually with “Integrate Nagios plug-ins”. Here you can use the
check_icmp

$USER1$/check_icmp -w 200,40 -c 400,80 192.168.188.1

output

OK - 192.168.188.1 rta 2.262ms lost 0%|rta=2.262ms;200.000;400.000;0; rtmax=3.582ms;;;; rtmin=0.000ms;;;; pl=0%;40;80;0;100

or
check_ping

$USER1$/check_ping -H 192.168.188.1 -w 200,40% -c 400,80%

output

PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 3.41 ms|rta=3.409000ms;200.000000;400.000000;0.000000 pl=0%;40;80;0;

For the IP you can use the placeholder $HOSTADDRESS$ inside the command definition.
The parameter you can define should also be visible here.
