Problem with setting up email notifications

Hi, I recently installed checkmk on my vm and so far I’m getting along very well. There was just one thing that didn’t work for me and that was sending emails.

I simply have a problem with setting up the e-mail notifications. I have installed CheckMK Bare Metal (not as Docker) and I have tried to set up sendmail with postfix, nullmail and mailx, but nothing has worked.

I want to use an external SMTP server to send mails. I tried the gmail smtp server and the resend.com smtp server, but nothing worked.

Can anyone help me? I have tried a lot and looked on this forum but unfortunately nothing could help me.

Why?
Direct SMTP to an outside server will be challenging today.

Normal setup looks like.

  • postfix with smarthost setting to your own local mail server inside your network

That’s all normally

If you have no internal mail server it is way easier to setup an telegram bot with your own channel for notifications.

what do you mean “not worked” I think you might get better help if you actually explains here what’s going on.

Checkmk does not send emails, its the OS you re running checkmk on (unless its the appliance) - do you have linux experts in your company that can help you?

I see timestamps regarding this topic of like 7 months ago, but a stagger regarding responses one day ago for 4 hours, but @system opens it up again 12 hours later (half a day).

So how relevant is the issue? as i am a bit confused as both to the stagger/block of 4 hours imposed by system, and then a release after 12 hours to a post which was from 7 months ago.
Totally confuses me…
Maybe @Sara can shed some light on this ?

Hi @Glowsome !
And a happy new year

There was a spam reply to this, and it is hidden now. In the cases when spam is reported in a topic, it gets temporarily closed – the system releases the block after some time automatically. It allows to avoid a longer thread of spam messages. This is what happened here.

The number of hours is, I guess, at least 4 hours – and since it was during holidays I could only deal with the spam message later, meaning the block got released later too. I have a question though why some of those messages are in German and some in English – that I will have to look into :eyes:

Hope this helps

Peculiar that it was closed in German and opened in English.

The css suggest they are small-action-custom-message items. Perhaps the predefined templates for such system messages have not be consistently filled in one language.

Yup. I am back now, so I can take a look, thanks for the hint!
