Rule Inheritance

CheckMK 1.6+

Dear Guys,

this is more or less a basic question and easy to test, but i want confidence.

I made a rule directing the Main Folder, does the rule now get inherited on all subfolders?

If i let me show the “used rules” in one subfolder, i don’t see the rule. Does it mean that i have to create a rule for every subfolder where the rule should work on?

Hello AlexanderS,
rules in the Main Folder are inherited to all subfolders.

In addition to @kdeutsch - the “used rules” only show rules what are used not what would be used if there is an object

Example:
If you have an empty folder then you see no used rules as there are no objects inside the folder.

ok, but the mentioned subfolder contain hosts.

For example i’ll use the “delay host notifcations” rule.
I can see it in the configured folder, but don’t in any subfolder.

Do i have to configure all rules on a per-folder base now?

I think i know what’s your problem.
You press the button “Used rulesets” and get an empty response.
That is a small bug inside the web interface.
Insert “.*” inside the search box and press “Search”.
Now you see all used rules inside this folder.
There is no search done with only the button “Used rulesets” pressed.

it isn’t empty at all.
But using your filter is my solution, thanks

With out the search you only see explicitly set rules inside this folder but no inherited rules. That’s right.
