Scheduled Maintenance with Flexible Downtime

I’ve seen several posts about Flexible Downtime but the concept is not really sinking in.

I have a maintenance window coming up from 08:00 to 12:00. I setup my Scheduled Maintenance for that time span. However, each individual host will each only be down for a few minutes sometime during this window. Is this where Flexible Downtime comes into play?

The Scheduled Maintenance window is the overall boundaries to tag Availability, but Flexible Downtime further restricts this window to “only when a host actually reports as down”?

08:00 - Start of Maintenance Window - a single notification goes out that maintenance has started

09:45 - Host 1 reports DOWN - no notification goes out

10:00 - Host 1 reports UP - no notification goes out

12:00 - End of Maintenance Window - a single notification goes out that maintenance has ended

In this example, even though the total Scheduled Maintenance window is from 08:00-12:00, the availability event of the host will only be flagged in the timeline when downtime ACTUALLY happens (09:45-10:00 in the above example)?

Or, does any downtime event that happens during the Scheduled Maintenance window flag as Downtime no matter when it happens (within the boundaries of the window)?

With the above example: if I disable Flexible Downtime, will I have a 4 hour blue box in my Availability timeline or will I have a 15 minutes blue box?

If I bind the Scheduled Maintenance to a folder, will it send out a “mainenance has started” notification for every host in the folder or just one for the start of the window?

This part is 100% correct.

Nope.

This will result in a 4-hour-blue-box.

If you configure your notification rules to send these messages, then it will be sent for every single host within that folder.
