Setting up the first network switch

CMK version: 2.1.0p16.cre
OS version: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS

Hi, just downloaded and trialing this product, setting up my first network switch, following along with the tutorial found in YT.

My problems are, after entering a new host (with SNMP credentials for SNMPv3 with auth and authPriv), I clicked on “Save & go to connection tests”, I see the following:

  1. it doesn’t remember “Auth password” and “Privacy pass phrase”. as you can see now, I have entered them again, and “Run tests”, SNMPv3 shows just fine: https://i.imgur.com/jOC2ZlF.png

  2. as you can see from the first screenshot, “SNMPv1/2 community” was not checked, and yet, it queried the device using the methods.

Thanks in advanced for all the hints and suggestions.

The connection tests always test all SNMP versions, regardless of the host configuration.
Just save the configuration and go to the service configuration to see what check items are found on this device.

You should click Save & Go to Service configuration instead

thanks, I did that…i went back to Edit host, (the password and pass phrase are still in red), but it’s not discovering anything…

it says “Loading”, then “Updating”, then nothing…

As your device clearly support v2 why are you not testing that first?
Are you sure you have configured v3 correctly? SHA-1 is broken…

yes, v2 works fine…according to this article: It’s important to note that this version of SNMP still sends community strings as clear text with no encryption options, leaving it vulnerable to the same security concerns as SNMPv1.

That means you have not correctly configured SNMPv3 and I’m afraid I can’t help you there.
A monitoring system should always follow Principle of least privilege, also if you design your network like your should OOB traffic should be separated so the only ones able to sniff it would be the network team.
