SNMP host services not found but SNMP walk works

Hi there!

I want to set up a Host via SNMP.

The system details are:

  • System: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS on a VM
  • Checkmk version: 2.1.0p11 (Free/Enterprise Trial)
  • Host: WAGO SPS 750-881

Unfortunately the service configuration scan only display the three standard services: “Interface 2”, “SNMP Info” and “Uptime”.
If I do the snmp walk “cmk -v --snmpwalk HostName” with the command line I get no errors. Also all the variables and OIDs are found correctly.
Any tips on how to approach this problem?

Thank you very much!

Are there checks that you expect to see?

Checkmk can only discover services where it knows which OIDs to query. If your device is new to checkmk it may only show the default. New check plugins would need to be written.

@r.sander Thanks for the quick answer.

I just wanted to make shure that I’m not missing something here.

So I understand it right, that you have to explicitly write your own SNMP PlugIn unless there is one already in the PlugIn Lib?
I cannot add the OIDs I want to display as a Service via the Webview, I have to write a PlugIn with the help of the command line and so on?

Thank you very much!

Yes, you have to tell checkmk what to query (the OIDs) and the check logic. This can only be done by implementing a check plugin.

There are partners that can do this for you.
