SNMP Management Board / Monitoring agents

Hi folks!

Just started learning checkmk, kinda like it so far. I have a question regarding snmp configuration.

In the configuration for for either host or folder, I have 2 options to enter the snmp configuration. Is there a difference between those?

Do I need both? What exactly is the management board?

Maybe someone can help me out.
Thanks a lot

A management board is an embedded piece of hardware build in a server. It is reachable under a separate IP address and usually connected to a dedicated management network. Exampes for management boards are ILO (Hewlett Packard), RSA (IBM/Lenovo) or CIMC (Cisco).

Checkmk can monitor management boards with SNMP or IPMI. You need the IP address (or a resolvable DNS name) to monitor it.

If you don’t know the parameters for the management board, your device most probable has none or it is not configured. Simply leave the management board section empty, you can add it later if needed.
