snmp-server host is only needed for sending snmp traps. I don’t use it at all as I get all informations I need via normal snmp requests. If you want to use traps I suggest that you can use any engine id as long as you add the same id in the rule “credentials for processing snmp traps” on the CheckMK side.
@Yggy has correctly pointed you to the relevant information when it comes to polling SNMP monitoring, which is our default and what we recommend.
@uwoehler rightfully noticed, that the screenshot is about sending SNMP traps and while Checkmk can read SNMP traps and handle them in the Event Console, we do recommend the polling approach over the pushing approach.
