Snmp v3 engine id

CMK version: 2.30p17.cme
OS version: Appliance v1.7.6

Hello,

we want to configure SNMP v3 on Cisco ISE system.
The problem the Cisco ISE SNMP configuration needs the remote engine ID from the Checkmk-Server.

How can I get the snmp v3 engine ID on the Checkmk-Server ?

thx
Gerhard

Unfamiliar with the subject, googled the term.

Some online information suggests it is called Context Engine ID in full.

Checkmk Docs has a bit info regarding Context ID in Monitoring via SNMP - Monitoring of SNMP devices with Checkmk
It tells that you need an extra rule Setup > Agents > SNMP rules > SNMPv3 contexts to use in requests to specify Context ID in.

Maybe this is what you are after?

snmp-server host is only needed for sending snmp traps. I don’t use it at all as I get all informations I need via normal snmp requests. If you want to use traps I suggest that you can use any engine id as long as you add the same id in the rule “credentials for processing snmp traps” on the CheckMK side.

@Yggy has correctly pointed you to the relevant information when it comes to polling SNMP monitoring, which is our default and what we recommend.

@uwoehler rightfully noticed, that the screenshot is about sending SNMP traps and while Checkmk can read SNMP traps and handle them in the Event Console, we do recommend the polling approach over the pushing approach.

thanks all for your information. This will help

Can you please mark the answer as the solution if it solved your problem?
