Stale services notification

Two things:

  1. I have changed the category of this thread, because this is not feedback to our official user guide at docs.checkmk.com. That is what the category Feedback/Documentation is there for.
  2. When services go stale that should imply that the host they are on is down or at the very least the service Check_MK is critical. That should suffice for a proper notification. “Stale” is actually no monitoring state. It is merely a flag. In fact it was implemented to prevent a huge amount of notifications that might be wrong. A service on a host can, of course, still be perfectly fine, even if the host/agent on the host has become unreachable for your Checkmk server. This is also mentioned in our official guide: Notifications - via Email, SMS, Ticketsystems and more
