Other than being send by mail, how is it different compared to the notifications regarding those event topics placed on the forum?
Also, the subscribe link feels like an Easter egg in the main site. 
For some people who do not check the forum regularly, that could be a good option I think (also, during the last call some of the attendees asked if we have something like that for future calls – and we do! )
Event Alarm also includes things like webinars, which I usually do not cover on the forum.
