I’m using version 2.0.0p9.cfe of checkmk, which is Checkmk Free Edition, however if I open Help from the left sidebar, I see the message: Trial expires in 27 days. (and going down)
Is this normal?
I mean, I use the CFE edition, so it should be free, right? Would assume no trial period, but unlimited time of usage?

at the moment, you have the enterprise. after the trial ends, its the free version without the enterprise features…

Are you sure about the no enterprise features? Because then it would be the same as CRE.
I would assume that after the trial period all features would still work, but only for 25 hosts…

He means the enterprise features that are not included inside the free edition like distributed monitoring support.
