raw 2.2.0p24:
Unbuntu 22.04.4

I am trying to follow the instructions here

The issue is I get stuck when I try to go to directory…
I can get too :/opt/omd/sites/
…but at that point is say I do not have the permision

Any guidance on how to do this?

With which user are you trying to access? Are you using the site’s user?

Ahh… I am learning here and may have fallen in to a knowledge gap

I am connecting over SSH to the machine running ubuntu server using as user set up in Linux.
There is also a user in checkmk of the same name.

Not sure if this answers your question

Execute:
omd sites

You can see the site’s name. Checkmk creates a user in linux with the same name. Access it with this user and you can access to /opt/omd/sites/ (you need to be sudoer)
