Ubuntu Desktop vs Server

Hello, just wondering if it matter which edition of Ubuntu CheckMK should be installed on, Desktop or Server. I couldn’t find it called out specifically in the documentation. Thank you.

I’d say that depends on what the machine you’re going to install it on is being used for. If it’s gonna have a “desktop” role where GUI programs will be run on, you’ll want to use the desktop variant.
If it’s gonna be a server where server applications like checkmk are going to be installed and you don’t need a GUI, choose the server variant.

The underlying system is the same, the difference is in the choice of packages being installed. A server install will install more CLI tools whereas the desktop install will install stuff like a GUI, an office suite, maybe things like media players, web browsers, email client, calendar, calculator and other GUI tools - none of this is needed when the machine is dedicated to serving server applications like checkmk.
