Using business intelligence with duplicate hostnames

CMK version: CEE 2.0.0p35-p36 (to be updated to 2.2 soon, though we have seen no changes so far which should change the following behaviour)
OS version: CentOS 7/Rocky 8

We have a fairly large CheckMK landscape with multiple instances attached to a central viewserver via distributed monitoring.

Most monitored VMs appear at least twice in this setup.
The first appearance originates from instances monitoring the hypervisors where the vms are seen from the “outside”. The second appearance originates from another instance where the vms are monitored from “within” via agents.

Both hosts have the same hostname in CMK (which has to stay this way for various reasons).
We are currently tring to build business integrations for various monitored services but are heaving problems with hosts not appearing in the BI.
The hosts just cannot be found by any rules.
We have narrowed the issue down to hosts appearing multiple times.
Is this an intentional restriction and, if yes, is this documented somewhere?

Is there any workaround? Some way to create a child node generator circumventing this for example?

Best regards
