VMware ESXi Memory: Yellow?

Hello community,

I am monitoring a server via the “VMWare ESX via vSphere” agent. For some reason, it reports a “Memory: Yellow” state:

But at the ESXi WebGUI directly, all memory-related sensors are green:

Any ideas?

I have seen that in the past. Assuming you are not mixing up the ESXi host you are looking at it is possible, that the vSphere API gives wrong values. I am not aware of a solution to this. Is your vSphere environment up to date?

Ok, thanks for your answer. I am not mixing up the ESXi host.
But, yeah, it is not really up to date (HPE-ESXi-6.5.0-OS-Release-iso-650.9.6.0.28). So I probably can’t blame anyone. I’ll use a rule to omit this warning. Thx.

Well if you are up-to-date on all the software products and the issue persists you can open a ticket with the tribe or get back here and report.

Hi,

i´ve seen this a lot of times in the past, mostly it is because of wrong / inconsisten data in the cim provider of the esxi.
You can try to restart the cim services as described here:

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1022670

Additionally you can try to reset the sensor states with the button above the table you showed and you can try to clear the ILO IML / ILO Log. Installing the latest ILO Version might also help.

Hey @aeckstein, thanks for that!
I have just restarted the service and now I have three warnings.

There’s only a “refresh” button. I hit it several times. Everything is still fully green in the ESXi GUI.

Ok, I’ll try to update the firmware of the server itself, incl. the iLO, as well as the ESXi. Thanks a lot for your help.

It’s nice the HBA has a real battery problem - that’s very normal on HP servers
For the memory problem this can be single bit errors on the modules that are fixed with ECC and that’s why VMWare shows it as ok.
As @aeckstein said take a look at the IML if there are single bit errors shown like here.

Hello,

I had a problem like that.

I fixed it by upgrade the HP ILO.

Regard.
