Dear friends of Checkmk,
Checkmk 2.4.0 beta has started with the release of 2.4.0b1!
After extensive internal alpha testing, we’re excited to move forward with the public beta.
This beta release ships with 917 changes affecting all editions of Checkmk,
155 changes for the Enterprise editions, 5 Cloud Edition specific and
24 Managed Services Edition specific changes.
Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
New in 2.4
An overview of the major changes can be found on the Checkmk roadmap page.
A detailed list of changes can be found via the 1000+ werks in 2.4.0.
Further content will come in the following weeks and at the Checkmk conference in May. We also plan to write a structured summary of all werks (a.k.a release notes) for 2.4 for the first time in the history of Checkmk.
Important update hints
You can find the most important topics relevant to an update of your Checkmk from version 2.3.0 to version 2.4.0 in a dedicated article in our official user guide. It is work in progress and will be completed over the next weeks.
API deprecations
As announced during 2.3.0 already, we decommissioned the agent_based_api.v1 (a.k.a Check API). Thus, during the lifetime of Checkmk 2.3.0, you need to update all your extensions to be built on top of cmk.agent_based.v2, cmk.server_side_calls.v1, cmk.graphing.v1, cmk.rulesets.v1 APIs. Then, the update to 2.4.0 should be swift without sweat and tears.
To support you in this, we have extended the relevant documentation. The existing articles are up-to-date and new articles on developing special agents and bakery plug-ins have been added. Including code examples!
We will further create video resources showing how to update plug-ins, focusing on the actions you as extension developers need to take.
We will include a notification mechanism in Checkmk 2.3.0 in the next weeks, which will inform you, if you have deprecated extensions.
Feedback
We would like to ask all users to try out the new version and help us ensure
that Checkmk 2.4.0 becomes a success.
