Merge two checkmk in one new

Hello everyone,
I have two checkmk servers:

One for team “network” version 1.6.0p27 RAW
One for team “server” version 1.5.0p19 RAW
Together they have 1129 hosts and 33971 services.

I’ve set up a new one (2.2.0p9 RAW) without trying to import stuff.
We want to get rid of very old ballast a lot of people don’t even know it exists in checkmk and probalby not any more in the real world.

We will rollout the newes agent in bille bulk groups and import the hostnames as *.csv.

But I would like to export the rules from the old ones and import them as they are.
Even tho some will not work cause of the new structure for folders etc. I’ve set up.

Is this possible?
Any other tips you can give me for this project?

Thanks a lot!

Rules sometimes require migrating which is often done automatically as part of the omd update process.
While you could ‘export’ the rules.mk files, you will most certainly brick your new system as you then miss the config migration.

The rest of your concept seems fine. Rules I just wouldnt do. Start anew, you can now incorporate all previous learnings in a fresh system!

You can create rules using the Rest API - I would perhaps have a look at that. Its not super intuitive when it comes to rules but if you have a good source for your rules re-creating complex rules could be scriptable.

We have rule “templates” in a database and can create rules based on data from our CMDB for example.

Hello @martin.hirschvogel and @Anders thanks for your replies.
I’ll have a further look into this.
